During the Summer of last year, forum moderator and site contributor Crystal Bear embarked on a journey to create something unique that Rare-Elite was lacking at the time. What she produced was the Rare-Elite Comics. Beginning today, we will be starting from the beginning and posting a comic each day. For the first month, the comics won’t be "new", so if they seem utterly familiar to you then don’t be surprised. Currently, the comics will not be archived here on the site itself, but rather in the Fandabase; however, if enough of you would rather they be archived here, then we’ll consider getting it done.
So beginning anew, here is the first ever Rare-Elite Comic, ‘Down the Rabbit Hole’:
One of the most unforgettable songs of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest was one that played during the Bramble Blast level. Nintendo took the liberty of fully orchestrating the song and remixing it a bit. Have a listen:
The 1980s. When gaming got its first real start with the consoles that brought video games into the homes: the NES, Spectrum ZX, Atari 2600, and the list goes on. During that decade, countless unforgettable games were released that rocked the foundation of gaming across the world. But of those countless games, which ones among them were the best? The Top 50 best? Next-gen.biz decided to take a stab at it and what they produced could be the most controversial ‘Top 50 games list’ to ever be released.
How did Rare fare? Rare’s (known as ULTIMATE: PLAY THE GAME at that particular time) Lunar Jetman ranked in at #27 followed by…nothing. That was it. Not another single Rare title was accomodated. Where is Jetpac? How about Battletoads? What of Sabrewulf?! Sesame Street 123? Okay…forget that last one. Heck, even Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros., the best selling video game of all-time, failed to be mentioned. Whilst I can’t speak for the rest of you, I would think the above games deserve some place on that list. Next-gen had best have their battle armor donned, as there will be some mighty displeased Rare and Nintendo fans out there who will not take this lightly, opinion or not.
What are your thoughts? Any other Rare games from the 80s you believe are worthy of being listed?
Like most games in the platform genre, Rare’s always tends to include a massive water world of sorts. And in these water worlds to find underwater creatures…like fish, naturally. MTV.com recognized this and decided to list who (or what) is the greatest aquatic video game animals of all time. Ranked among the top 20 are two you’ll surely recognize: the infamous garbage disposing Clanker of Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country’s Lockjaw thrashing Enguarde. Kudos to MTV for not forgetting these two oustanding creatures.
We live. We die. That is life. To us die hard (uhh…no pun intended here) gamers, we spend the majority of our lives seated in front of the teletube playing the dickens out of our favorite games. But how many will we play before our time is up? And did we make the right choices of those games we played? Well, GamesRadar has taken a look at this and came up with a list of the 59 levels in games you absolutely MUST play before you die! Included on this list is the Aztec level from Goldeneye 007. Now, I can understand why it would make the list as it is a greatly designed level that presents a nifty challenge, but it’s so painstakingly difficult it may just be the level that kills you…
For myself, this weekend doesn’t differ very much from last weekend. I’ll frequent Brawl a bit more, Condemned 2 (during the night) and see how much further I can manage to get in Lost Odyssey. Quite the game that. One of the most epic RPGs to be released in sometime that contains emotional elements unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. Much excited is I. And you lot? What games are coming from your cupboards to infiltrate those beastly gaming machines?
