As a part of their latest GT Countdown entry, Gametrailers rounded up their picks for gaming’s finest (ten) years. Unsurprisingly, the years 1997 and 1998, both years of what many consider to be some of Rare’s greatest titles, made the list- specifically, Goldeneye (1997) and Banjo-Kazooie (1998).
2005 was also listed, being the year of Conker: Live and Reloaded, as well as the Xbox 360 launch titles, Kameo: Elements of Power and Perfect Dark Zero. Click the link below to see for yourself. Don’t worry, folks, my links are Rick-Roll Freeâ„¢!
Throughout Rare’s many years as a development studio, they’ve created some of the greatest games to ever be released on a variety of consoles. Donkey Kong Country, Banjo-Kazooie, Killer Instinct, Conker, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, and Viva Pinata are but a few–and I mean few–of these titles. A full list of all of Rare’s games is available to make your choosing easier.
For myself, I have to say Banjo-Kazooie. The story told, the great gameplay, outstanding memorable soundtrack, the magical charm…I could just go on and on. It’s a mixture of these things and so much more that has allowed Banjo-Kazooie to become my personal favorite game that Rare has developed to date.
This is just a quick announcement to inform you all that the Rare Fandabase is now open for anyone to edit the pages therein. Be aware that it will be monitored on all accounts, so please do not vandalise the wiki. To edit pages or create pages of your own, you must first sign up for a free account. It should take no longer than thirty seconds to do so. So go, register, have fun…and be good!
A couple of weeks ago, Banjo 360 was shown to select media in Rare’s Twycross HQ. What media and information regarding the game that was revealed has been kept tightly underwraps. That may soon be changing. A member at Neogaf is reporting that the embargo is to be liftedon May 13th, meaning that everything the media was shown can be unleashed upon the world. Ladies and gentleman, the time is upon us. A possible mere 3 1/2 weeks to go…can you withstand the wait?
One thing I usually try to do is avoid posting anything that doesn’t relate to Rare. I’m just going to have to make an exception this time. It’s no secret that I’m not much of a Halo fan, but Bungie does deserve credit for allowing Halo 3 to be such an incredible way to customly create your own videos thanks to the save capabilities. Enjoy this video: Halo meets Nintendo.
GameDaily always has some awkward, out-of-place list (have I ever said how much I hate these?) in hand. The majority of them usually include something that is in relation to Rare and unfortunately, that’s not always a good thing. But not to worry for today. It’s not bad but I don’t know if it’s good either…
Their newest, obligatory listing pertains to the ‘Top 10 Characters that let themselves go’. As bestowed by the title of this news post, it shouldn’t be difficult to decipher that a certain red squirrel squandered onto this list, but does he deserve to be there? He unshamefully wizzes on other beings, chokes singing poo with toilet paper, craps on the village people…Okay. I think it’s pretty self explanatory, don’t you?
First birds, now monkeys. Will these lists ever die?! Now I know how Leigh feels…Loveday, if I ever decide to send in another letter to Scribes, rest assured it won’t be a bloody list. Moving on…
SlobsofGaming just recently celebrated the ‘Twelve Greatest Video Game Monkeys’, with both Diddy Kong (#4) and, astonishingly, Kiddy Kong (#10) listed among them. Diddy was to be expected, but Kiddy? I’m certainly not bashing the poor little guy, but it’s just not every day that he is mentioned by other “journalists”. SlobsofGaming deserve some *insert text of awesomeness here* for the recognition of one of the most overlooked monkeys of all-time.
The folks over at MTV are at it again, this time asking for your votes for Gaming’s Greatest Birds. The nominees for Rare created characters are Expresso the Ostrich from Donkey Kong Country, Eyrie the Eagle from Banjo-Kazooie, and the loud-mouthed breegull herself, Kazooie. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m rooting for Kazooie. I’d rather not be egged for failing to vote for her!
Since Viva Pinata Ds’s official unveiling at comic-con last year by Rare’s James "BIGsheep" Thomas and Justin "we worked really hard" Cook, not very much info or media for the game has been shown. But it looks like they may soon be changing as the game has finally received it’s official title: Viva Pinata: Pocket Paradise. Another innuendo Rare? That’s meh boys. Expect the game to be released in the relatively near future.
So it seems Rare-Elite has been having a bit of problems for the past week. For some reason, when anyone using Internet Explorer tries to access the site, an error code pops up and refuses the to open the page. The problem we thought lied in the addition of the Twitter to the sidebar. Tyrant has removed it and seems to have corrected the problem. If ANY of you still receive the ‘abort’ message, please be sure and let us know so we can correct it immediately. The majority of you who visit us here us IE, so it’s very important that we are aware of any complications you may be having. We’ve also got an entire week’s worth of news we’ve missed due to this unfortunate circumstance that includes several more ‘top’ lists from various websites and the official title for Viva Pinata DS! So stay tuned!
