April 14th, 2008 by hylian1

For months, long time Rare-Elite supporter and creator of the Rare-Elite Comics, Crystal Bear, had been working on a top secret project that not even I knew about. Today the project was unveiled as Banjo: Ace Attourney, a Phoenix Wright/Gyakuten Saiban crossover. The official teaser trailer below:

The Pantsboard Strikes Back

April 12th, 2008 by Banjo-Conker

The Pantsboard has, at long last, returned (though whether or not it really left in the first place remains a mystery). You remember the Pantsboard, don’t you? It’s like a- like a less frequent, less informative version of the Scribes. See, I knew you remembered!

This time ’round, Mr. Pants wants to read about your theories regarding Rare’s latest “April Fool efforts”. If you don’t know what I’m talkin’ about, click here. As for the Pantsboard itself, you have ’til the end of April to send ‘em your thoughts.

Questions, questions, questions…

April 11th, 2008 by hylian1

I really hope the lot of you has your thinking caps on this week, as it seems we’re just bombarding you with questions. This question in particular actually deals with the Rare Fandabase, that is currently experiencing problems again. We’ve really got get this issue permanately settled. Anywho…

Many of you have expressed interest in wanting the privelege to add content to the Fandabase yourselves. So I’m contemplating whether it should be opened to allow everyone to edit/add pages or not. I don’t really see the harm in it as long as it is carefully moderated by us admin gods. Pay careful attention to the bolding, that means don’t mess with us.

Bear in mind that IF this does happen, there will be certain restrictions, i.e some pages will be protected, no uploading videos, etc. etc. More on this as it happens.

As a side note, don’t forget to tell us what games you’ll be playing this weekend and what your first Rare game was.

4/11-4/13- What are you playing this weekend?

April 11th, 2008 by hylian1

Another weekend, another three days of game time. I suspect that Blue Dragon will consume the majority of time this weekend with a little mixture of Brawl, Call of Duty 4 and Lost Odyssey (yes, I’m still playing it). I hope to also get a bit of work done around here on Rare-Elite as well as our sister site, BringBackTheGamer, get a few e-mails out (hey George!) and whatever else I’m forgetting.

You’re preferred games for this weekend are….?

Getting to know you: What was your first Rare game?

April 10th, 2008 by hylian1

A new feature we’re going to be running every week is what we like to call ‘Getting to know you’. What this feature consists of is one simple question that tells us something about yourself in relation to Rare. All you have to do is simply answer the question in the comments. That’s it. It’s all of you fans of Rare and Rare-Elite that keeps this site running, so we want to know a bit about you. Sooo….

This week, we would like to know what your very first Rare game was. Either the first you owned or the first you ever played–or heck even both if you wish. As for me, the first Rare title I ever had the privelege to play was, quite surpisingly, Roger Rabbit on the NES. Unfortunately, the only thing I really recall is driving around in a little red car… So what about the rest of you?

Banjo an RTS? Hmmm

April 9th, 2008 by hylian1

There seems to be quite a debate going on about whether or not the new Banjo game will be an RTS or not. Unfortunately, the majority of the fans in the debate are looking at the ‘Banjo an RTS’ in the wrong way. But will the game be an RTS? It absolutely will and it absolutely won’t. Here’s why…

Think of an RTS. What do they involve more than anything else? Strategy. Take Fire Emblem and Advance Wars for instance. They both require strategy to successfully complete the levels throughout the games. The way you strategize can either make the level easy or can make it hard. Wait a minute….doesn’t that sound familiar?

Scribes: "the player will determine the difficulty level by how they approach the Jiggy tasks"

Well I’ll be. That sounds just like an RTS, doesn’t it? So you see, while the game won’t be a full-blown RTS, it’ll contain RTS elements such as what Rare said in Scribes as quoted above. So with the combination of those elements mixed with a platformer, Banjo will essentially appeal to both the "casual" and "hardcore" players with varying difficulties throughout the adventure while still maintaining the ‘essence of a Banjo game’.

Make sense? It should.

Rumor: MS and Rare working on Motion Sensing 360 Controller?

April 9th, 2008 by Tyrant_Reborn

A new rumor making it’s rounds on the internet is that Rare has been assigned the task of creating a motion sensitive controller to compete with the Wii. The rumor originated from MTV.com’s news section and basically says that Rare’s been working hard with MS to develop a Wii like motion sensing controller for the 360 to make it more marketable to the family market.

Could this be the reason behind Banjo’s continued shyness? Seems that if Banjo is using this controller it would make sense for Rare not to show it off until the controller is finalized. We’ll keep an eye on this one and keep you posted if anything is revealed.

Nine is the New Ten

It’s that oh-so special time of the week again, when Banjo-Conker tells you of the status of our beloved red squirrel’s Xbox outing. For the second week in a row, Conker: Live and Reloaded has made the #9 spot on Major Nelson’s LIVE Activity Update.

Well done, kid.

Rare induces adults-only moments with Nintendo

April 7th, 2008 by hylian1

Rare, Rare, Rare. Oh how you indulge your games with innuendos. Toads-in-the-hole, giant wing wangs, even the names of your games (I’m looking at you Grabbed by the testicles Ghoulies), and the list goes on and on. But sometimes…it’s not just about the hidden messages. It’s those moments that are oriented moreso to "adults" as opposed to the little tykes of the world. Thus, Computerandvideogames’ ‘Top 25 adults only moments in Nintendo’ feature is born. How did ye fare, oh Rare? Quite well…quite well indeed. Let’s take a look!

1. The DK Rap (Donkey Kong 64)- You foul-mouthed fiends! Bringing the first curse word into a Nintendo published title? Millions of kiddies played that game! Imagine the torture the poor parents endured when they had to explain to their children what hell is!

2. Conker’s Bad Fur Day- Shocked! Shocked we are! We all knew you lot could be devilish (those poor Tribals!!), but who would have guessed that two years later we’d be rolling poo balls, listening to a sunflower be stimulated, butt chewing dinos, swearing like there’s no tomorrow…I could just rant all day. Hell (oops!), Nintendo was even so ashamed they refused to cover it and wouldn’t even publish it in Europe! Are you happy with yourselves?!

3. Killing the Scientists (Goldeneye 007)- "I am Invincible!!" Who wouldn’t want to kill Boris? He had it coming to him! I’d say you clever chaps made it quite apparant that you wanted us to as well, since the ‘failed mission’ status doesn’t infiltrate the screen if he’s killed after his deed is done. And to this, I say thank you.

Whilst I’m sure there are plenty other ‘adults-only moments’ they could have included from your games Rare, three-out-of-twenty five isn’t half bad. Hmmm…This gives me an idea for an article of my own, me thinks. Watch for it you dastardly devs, you should enjoy it ;).
