Want to take a guess at which two Rare franchises made this list? If you guessed Killer Instinct and Battletoads, then you are right on the money. What ‘franchises that need to comeback’ lists DOESN’T include these games? Not many.

This feature from Gamepro puts into perspective just how long it has been since we last saw either of these games. The last Battletoads game released on Arcade back in 1996 (13 years ago!) and Killer Instinct Gold was the last for that franchise on the Nintendo 64 some twelve years ago. While Battletoads may not be revived any time soon in the near future, it is rumored that not only Killer Instinct 3 will be releasing on the Xbox 360, but a potential remake or port of the original could appear on the Xbox LIVE Arcade. Given the high success rate of fighters on the console, it is very difficult to rule out either possibility. Fingers crossed!
